Why did you decide to support Spurs

I looked at capsules of all the EPL teams and narrowed it down to a handful.  I liked that Tottenham was a team on the upswing with a good tradition, but not a bandwagon-type team.  The clincher was being part of the Yids.  Although I'm Presbyterian, my father - and my entire family on his mother's side - is Jewish. 

I also loved that there's a great rivalry with a nearby, ridiculously arrogant fan base.  I'm an Auburn University graduate & fan, and we have the same thing - primarily in college football, but would extend to tiddleywinks if the 2 teams were playing - with the University of Alabama.

I grew up in a rugby league town and didn't have any interest in football as a kid. I then moved to London as a student in 1981 and one day on a whim I decided to go to a football match. I actually decided to go to West Ham, but missed the bus I needed to catch and realised I had no chance of getting there in time. So, I looked at the fixtures and saw I could still make it to White Hart Lane. It's so long ago that I can't even remember who we played that day, but I've been eternally thankful since then for missing that bus!

My dad took me to WHL for the first time when I was 8 back in 1975/76 Season where I fell in love with the whole place, team, players and atmosphere. Been a fanatical fan ever since just like my dad (god bless him, he is no longer with us), I loved listening to my Dad talk about the great double side and his favourite players he used to watch like Tommy Harmer, John White, Danny Blanchflower and his favourite Dave McKay.
 
Basically I was born a Spurs Fan it's always been in my  DNA since I was conceived.

When I was about 8 or 9 and a small kid with no particular interest in sport I started hanging out with 2 Other kids who were spurs fans. They were because their older brothers were fans. My older bro supported forest! I gradually through watching games with the likes of mabbutt lineker and gascoine became a fan much to the annoyance of there boys who thought I was only copying them. So much so that they took me aside one day to announce that they had changed allegiance to liverpool. I despite this declared my lifelong support for the spurs. you Should have seen their faces. Their trick didnt work as they assumed id jump ship. Thats my rather irrelevant story.:-P

Simple Jimmy Greaves. I loved him he was the finest goal scorer of his day. I nagged my dad to take me see to him play for England which he did. I was enthralled by the whole experience so my dad, somewhat reluctantly, took me to The Lane. That was it Spurs were it for me I lived eat and breathed Spurs. As soon as I was old enough to go on my own that was were I was every home game. Strangely enough my old man still came with me on occasions. I think the bug bit him too although he would never admit it.

My family are all Leeds United fans(Brother has turned tide and now "follows" Liverpool).  I'm from Somerset and while growing up I saw Bristol City a few times at Ashton Gate, Yeovil town at The Huish and home town Taunton Town at Wordsworth drive.  Was never tempted by Leeds nor by Liverpool, despite the preachings and encouragement from my Godfather.   But I remember seeing Spurs on TV in the mid to late 80's and seeing an interview with Gary Mabbutt....here was a guy playing top flight football who sounded like he came from a farm round the corner!!

The Hoddles and Waddles and all were a bonus

Started with my Father who started supporting spurs with Ardiles and Villa in the club. He stick with em till now and told me about the club week in week out until now. Twas curious why my father supported this club when my country have a big fan base for Man Utd and Chelsea. Apparently he is one of the few who support em during his time.

As i grow up i begin to follow the exploits of Tottenham and fell in love with the Mighty Spurs after listening to Chas & Dave Ossie's Dream. Began to watch their exploits when BmJ became the manager for Spurs(Yeh its really hard to watch our matches here during that time). Now you might be wondering how old i am? turning 23 this year on 11th September if you guys are curious.

Oh and another why i supported Spurs was because of Le' Scums supporters in my country are obnoxious bastards.

I started following Spurs around 1996, right after Euro '96 where Teddy Sheringham and Darren Anderton caught my eye. At first I could only check the scores from Finnish teletext because I had no internet at home and newspapers in Estonia didn't pay much attention to football gossip etc. More closely I have followed Spurs since 2000.

I've never been to White Hart Lane but I have met Martin Chivers once. For some time I avoided watching Spurs games on TV because they always managed to lose winnable games when I was watching (2005 to Newcastle, 2006 to Leicester spring to mind). Oh, I remember when we won 4:3 against West Ham (Stalteri's biggest moment) then I had turned off the TV when West Ham had taken 3:2 lead. I broke my duck in Carling Cup final against Chelsea, though.

I started following Tottenham from the age of 9 even though i have never lived anywhere near London.
 
My dad is a Spurs fan so i guess it came from him. He actually was originally a Leyton Orient fan as a school boy until his best mate took him to see Spurs at WHL when my dad was in his early teens. Ever since then he has been a big follower of Tottenham.
 
Togther my dad and i have seen Spurs mainly away from home up in the North West area, the likes of Bolton, Blackburn, City away, but also Villa away. We have been to WHL a hand full of times and i hope to maybe get down there this season (maybe a CL night!!)

just as I thought really.... most of you 'supporters' of Spurs are nothing of the sort..

youre a bunch of wannabes who have never even attended half a dozen Spurs games, but rather like to 'associate' themselves with a London Premiership club cos it kinda feels nice to do so... abit like picking a favourite colour when youre 6yrs old..

I would never call myself a supporter of Spurs (or any other club) as I feel that degrades REAL supporters of football clubs that go to the trouble and sheer expense of literally supporting their club with hard-earned cash...

personally, I would never dream of spending money regularly to watch Prem football, as its a rip-off costing 40pounds+ for just 90mins of dubious entertainment - not when I can follow quality football through ESPN or Sky for much much less....

the only league where I would consider attending and supporting a football club is probably in Germany, where the average cost is about 15pounds for a match-ticket - a reasonable price for matches of equal quality and excitement as Prem games... I also think the idea of majority fan-owned clubs rthere is the best system for Football, and the stadiums and facilities in Germany are second to none.... compared with some real poo-holes even in the Premiership that ppl have to attend for games....

I am not a supporter, but I like to watch Spurs..... cos for decades theyve played an attacking game with flair and style, and I'm particularly enjoying the football we've played for the last 6yrs since Jol/Arneson arrived... building great teams from developing alot of young players and then bringing in a few experienced players to help them....

also the 4-4-2 system we play is great to watch and we are the few good teams in the country with players/coaches brave enough and talented enough to play it...

If proudly following a club, engaging with the supporters club direct, buying the odd piece of merchandise and contributing through Sky subscription (Yep....the clubs get a lot of money through TV rights...money that is essential to the club) and going as and when I, as a student, can afford it and when I can get tickets makes me a wannabee then a wannabe I am and I'll be one with pride.

What's your excuse for being an inflammatory asshole with a superiority complex?
