Embarrassment; Nobody wants to be our manager

Brendan Rogers and a host of names had turned down the chance to manage our club; the latest Nuno Sant has also just turned us down. He would rather manage Fenerbahce, the Turkish club, than us. How humiliating is that? And the ones that wanted to come, like Conte, were too ambitious and wanted the money to win trophies.

Levy was dealt another devastating blow in their lengthy managerial search this week…  Turkish radio station Radyo Gol said Nuno Santo is on the verge of being appointed as Fenerbahce’s next boss after talks accelerated over the weekend. The final meeting between the Super Lig giants and the Nuno Santo were held on Monday, and an announcement is imminent.

Nuno Santo was widely being touted as the front-runner for the Spurs job; with newly – Fabio Paratici –  ‘pushing hard’ to secure him to be our manager.

What makes it even worse, Nuno has been out of work for less than a month after leaving Premier League rivals Wolves by mutual consent at the end of last season, but he would rather leave England than manage us.

This is the umpteenth setback since Jose Mourinho was sacked in mid-April. Levy has held talks with at least six to eight different names, whilst as many as twelve different options have been mooted throughout this disastrous process.

As I said earlier, the likes of Julian Naglesmann and Brendan Rodgers were thought to be chairman Daniel Levy’s top candidates – the former opted for Bayern Munich, and the latter played down a move to Tottenham from Leicester City almost instantly because he could achieve more with the foxes than he could do with us. The same with Naglesmann.

We also mustn’t forget the talks we had with Conte, which collapsed late due to both parties’ concerns, whilst Mauricio Pochettino had doubts of his own (more so because of the way he was treated by Levy the first time around).

Paratici was hired as Spurs’ director of football, and he quickly moved for former AS Roma and Shakhtar boss Paulo Fonseca, only for those discussions to break down at the 11th hour. Then he turned to Gennaro Gattuso before a backlash from our supporters. Another knockback has left us looking really unprofessional and stupid;  it has been blow after blow for Levy and the Board.

Pre-season training starts next week, and if we don’t have a manager in charge, then Mason will take over once again.

My thoughts

The whole managerial process has made us a laughing stock, not only from other Premier clubs but worldwide, and even our fans have been left embarrassed.

Yes, Levy is a good businessman, but a crap Director of a Football club. In twenty years, he achieved one trophy, with 15 or so different managers passing through his shaky hands. And it won’t end there, whoever becomes our next manager, I can only see disaster ahead of us. I hope I am wrong and that our next managerial appointment will be an inspired move, but somehow I doubt it.

Last season our group put some money on Spurs to do well; this time around, we won’t be putting anything on any results. Just prepare for the worst, but hope for the best.

Take care, and stay safe,

Glenn

  1. Totally agree with your sentiments, Glenn. I’m afraid Levy and ENIC only see this club as a way to make themselves money. We’ve had decent managers who would have made this club a major force to be reckoned with, but didn’t get the support or backing from these jokes!! They haven’t got Tottenham Hotspur Football Club interests at heart, only their wallets!!

    1. Yes, you are right, and I do fear for the future. I’ve been going to Spurs since the late 50s and this must be the worst period I have had to witness.
