The end of the road for Bale and Spurs

The end of the road for Bale and Spurs

Our new coach Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that Bale will not return to the club for a second loan spell next season. This doesn’t really surprise me as I could see the writing on the wall. Yes, near the end of his time, last season, he served us well, but he suffers from injuries and is now 32 years old. We would have had to pay a lot of money for uncertainty…

Just rejoining us was very spectacular, even though it was only on a season-long loan deal, but it did create such a media frenzy. Even that season, I managed to see him play for us, including the cup final.

Under Mourinho, Bale experienced a stop-start season, having struggled for a place in the starting eleven; nevertheless, he did show flashes of his brilliance in some games when allowed to play. But Nuno’s decision is final, revealing that Bale will not be lining up for us again during the season ahead.

Bale is now in his final year at Real Madrid and is likely to remain in Spain after receiving no offers.

Gareth Bale earned £650,000-a-week which infuriated Madrid supporters. Nevertheless, while he was with us on loan, we paid 40% of that wage.

In his first press conference, Nuno talked about Bale’s situation and said to Football.London: “He will not be part of our squad.” End of!

My thoughts

There was another reason for Bale joining us last season, and that was to get fit to be able to play in the Euro’s, which he achieved. I also understand that he wants to see out his contract with Real Madrid, and then after that, it is all speculation. However, I personally think he will retire and do something with golf, like becoming a caddy (I am sure he will love that!).

A Hero

Whatever way we look at Bale, he is part of the club and a true legend. It was only a shame that he had to move away to find Glory and trophies. But he will always be welcome back at the club.

Personally, I’ve seen him play every game for us, for that I have great memories and say thank you.

All the best,

Glenn
