Our first signing: Pierluigi Gollini
Goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini (signed from Atalanta) has undergone the first part of his medical ahead of moving to us (information from Fabrizio Romano).
The journalist Romano said that Gollini will take a plane to Tottenham tomorrow (22nd) to complete his medical and then join Spurs on loan until June of next year, which includes the option to make the deal permanent for €15m (£12.9m).
He could be heard saying to passing journalists, “I’m so happy” on his way to getting a flight to England. Gollini had played 20 times for Aston Villa in the Championship in 2016 before joining Atalanta, where he has been the number one goalkeeper for the past three seasons. So he is familiar with English football.
Gollini joined Hellas Verona in 2014 from Manchester United. He made his Serie A debut on 24 September 2014. Then after two seasons with that club, he signed for the English team Aston Villa in the Championship on the 8 July 2016. There he made his first appearance in an 8-0 friendly against Grazer AK the next day.
Then on the 13 January 2017, he signed for the Italian side Atalanta on just under a years contract. He spent the first half of the year as only a backup to Etrit Berisha; however, he took over as their main goalkeeper in the second half of the season. Gollini started every match in Atalanta’s debut season in the UEFA Champions League, as they finished 2nd in the group stage, qualifying for the round of 16.
His International career
Gollini made his debut with the Italy U21 team on 2 June 2016, in a 0–1 loss against France. Then he made his first senior appearance on the 15 November 2019, where he came on as a substitute in a 3–0 away win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, in a Euro 2020 qualifier.
A bit of a celebrity; personal life
In June 2018, under the alias Gollorius, he published a rap music single “Rapper coi guanti” (Rapper with gloves); he donated the proceeds to charity.
An excellent young prospect. Is he the start of Levy’s revolution? Obviously, if he does well, then I am sure that the club will sign him permanently.
Be safe, Glenn
