Middlesbrough, Everton and the Spurs Cockerel (animal cruelty)

Middlesbrough 1 Spurs zero… and we are out of another cup competition for another season. The last time we won a cup was in 2008, 14 years ago. The last time we won the FA cup was in 1991 – 31 years ago. In twenty-two years in charge, Levy has managed to give the Spurs fans one trophy and fuck all else. However, he has managed to enrich himself, and Lewis in the processes… by building themselves a money-making stadium… but the cupboards are bare where the team is concerned (ok, one single trophy!).

Our trip to Middlesbrough was a long and knackering car ride up to Middlesbrough and back. We left at 12 on Tuesday and got home at 3.30 Wednesday morning… I then slept until 10.30. The rid backwards and forwards was all for a poor performance and allowing Middlesbrough through to the next round. They must have thought their luck was in once they knew they had drawn against “Spursy”.

We had three losses, then we beat City, lost against Burnley, beat Leeds United (thrashed them) and then collapsed against a Championship league team. Some fans had a go at me for using the word “Spursy,” I don’t like it either. Still, Spursy is what we are until it gets into Levy & Lewis’ scull, that to be a top club, we have to invest in the best, not just rely on penny-pinching and expecting our youngsters to perform professional men’s tasks.

Our Middlesbrough failure

Substitute Josh Coburn scored the winner in extra time as Middlesbrough stunned our fans to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Or should they have been stunned? Isn’t it something we’ve come to expect of late?

Middlesbrough had a sell-out crowd at the Riverside for the first time in five years. They had beaten Manchester United in the last round, matched their opponents (us) throughout and broke the deadlock in the 107th minute.

Coburn had latched on to Matt Crooks’ pass before the 19-year-old thumped an effort beyond Hugo Lloris and into the far corner.

Most fans had hoped that  Antonio Conte was the manager to end our 14-year wait for a trophy, but we will now have to wait again, at least another season for a whiff of another trophy.

We have now lost seven of their 13 matches in 2022.

Everton

Which now leads us on to Everton (Monday night). Yes, we’ve got another struggling team near the bottom of the Premier League to face. They are just one point off Burnley, who are in the bottom three.

As a struggling team (Everton) – just like Burnley – they have the right credentials to beat and humiliate us at our Tottenham Stadium. What more can I say? The way we are playing it is just like tossing a coin up in the air and then seeing what side it lands to predict who will win the tussle between the Toffee chewers and ourselves.

The way we are playing; up and down and up again… followed by down, our season could go any way. We could just as much be in the top 4 spot as fighting for relegation. Or a place in the Europa League or Europa Conference? Who knows…? With the squad Conte has got, I don’t think he even knows what the outcome could be. He must be thinking; “why the hell did I get muddled up with Levy and Lewis’ Twightlight zone world”.

I’ve given up for this season… If I had to put my money on it, I would go for a win (2-1)… with Deli scoring a goal for his new team. But then again, he could easily get the winning goal for his Toffee munchers.

For that game, I am taking Janette… this will be her third game at our Tottenham.

Our Cockeral and its Spurs.

It seems that animal rights fanatics have told Tottenham that they must update our cockerel emblem due to its historical links with animal cruelty (the Sunday Express (20/02/22). The Spurs on our cockerel is also offensive and should go.

The fighting spurs featured on our Cockerel emblem have caused issues with animal rights charity, and they want Tottenham to have them removed for good. If not, the club, fans etc., could be targeted by their fanatics.

Spurs on cockerels were used in what was once a legal sport (now outlawed). The charity now wants a more updated version of the club’s crest. We must, they say, remove the ties to animal cruelty for good.

I am sure the fans won’t accept it, however, I have heard rumours that Levy and Lewis might capitulate. After all, their aim is to make money, not annoy potential coffers. The stadium’s uniform doesn’t have our emblem on it and doesn’t want the ground to be associated with our Cockerel/ emblem ( it is a multi stadium, not just a football club stadium).

The club had already undergone a redesign of its badge in the past when the spurs were ‘de-emphasised’ by the club in an update to make it more modern back in 2006 (this was under Levy).

Thoughts (WTF)

Do we really want the fanatics taking over and telling us what to do? And what about other football crests that have something on them that might offend: Arsenal’s cannon, Norwich’s canary (the bird was used down coal minds) or the hammers in West Ham’s logo, for example.

What are your thoughts; that is everything that I have written?

COYS!

All the best, Glenn

  1. Spurs are a natural part of a cockerel’s anatomy. Cockerels are afraid of nothing and most will challenge anything or anyone to a fight (except for their hens). They use their spurs to fight everything (including people!). For cock fighting metal spurs were tied on to do more damage but our emblem only shows the natural spurs so it is ridiculous for animal cruelty people to suggest we change our emblem. I bet it was suggest by a gooner!
