Tottenham signed Richarlison (our fourth signing), with more to come!
Some have been very shocked at how quickly we have purchased players (and spent) so far (more so with Levy & Lewis in charge). However, my concerns are that we’ve spent the money on the right players. Of course, the best judge on whether we’ve spent wisely should be down to Conte, after all, it will be his head that will be on the block.
Cast your minds back to when we spent Bale’s money, and look how that went: Roberto Soldado, Erik Lamela, Moussa Sissoko etc. And what did we win by spending all Bale’s money in one go? Sod all! In fact, under Levy, we’ve only ever won one trophy, and that was the League cup in 2008.
Richarlison has arrived from the Everton-Toffee-munchers after four Premier League seasons of failing to live up to expectation. He has failed to perform sufficiently in this country. He has never been a plentiful striker (so far). However, considering how Conte turned Totteneham around when he took over from Nuno, the coaches he has at his disposal, and the quality of players we’ve got (and are getting), it should put him on a higher plane and only improve his game.
Yes, we’ve signed the Brazilian forward Richarlison on a five-year deal worth £60m.
He is 25 and has scored ten goals and provided five assists as he helped poor-man’s Liverpool team, Everton, avoid relegation last season. He scored 43 goals in 135 league appearances for the “Dogs of War” after joining from Watford in July 2018.
Watford had signed Richarlison for £11.5m from Brazilian side Fluminense in 2017. He can play either as a wide attacker or central striker; Richarlison finished as joint-top scorer across all competitions in his opening two seasons, reaching double figures in three of the four seasons he was at Everton.
He made his senior international debut for Brazil in September 2018 as a second-half substitute in their 2-0 win over the United States. He has gone on to make 36 appearances, scoring 14 goals. In 2019, he was named in the 23-man squad for the Copa America. He scored in the final as Brazil won the tournament for the first time since 2007. At the rescheduled 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, he finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with five goals as his side won gold.
We have already signed England goalkeeper Fraser Forster on a free transfer after he left Southampton and Croatian winger Ivan Perisic on a free transfer from Inter Milan and Brighton’s Yves Bissouma.
So far we’ve spent £95m, the top highest spenders so far… above Liverpool (£91.5m), City (£51.1m), followed by Woolwich and Villa, both have spent under£46m. This isn’t Levy territory, he prefers to take things to the wirer… this is down to their director of Football Paratici.
After 22 years in charge and nothing to show for it (apart from one trophy), it seems that Levy might suddenly be learning a lesson or two. You can’t achieve recognition on the cheap or by just putting youth on the field. With Conte in charge, this is a make-or-break season for Levy. But it shouldn’t end there; to achieve glory, he must realise that he can’t just stop after one season but continue on the same track forever more.
Richarlison won’t be the last either, more are on the way; I don’t think we will have to wait until the end of the season, either.

I am currently a Premium Season Ticket holder (West Stand) in the new stadium. Before that – at White Hart Lane – a season ticket holder in various parts of the ground (mainly in the North stand).
Before becoming a season ticket holder, I stood on the shelf and various other parts of the ground since the 1960s (the season of the double). In 1987 I became one of the first to hold a Spurs Membership card. I was also a life long member of the Spurs supporters club (now defunct).
I go to all home, away and abroad matches.
I was born in 1955, Edgware, London. I currently live in Berkshire.
I also collect all Spurs books, Spurs handbooks, Spurs programmes etc.
